Community Mission Ministries
Community Mission Ministries connect the church to the local community through participation in local projects and activities and in forming partnerships. Partnerships enable the church to build deeper and lasting relationships with like-minded community organizations.
Discipleship Ministry
Discipleship Ministry seeks to focus the church on making disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
Durham Congregations, Associations, and Neighborhoods (Durham CAN)
Durham CAN is a non-partisan group of everyday people building collective power and resolving problems that impact low- and moderate-income people in Durham, North Carolina.
Durham Congregations in Action (DCIA)
DCIA is a cooperative, multi-faith network offering care and support for the most vulnerable and forgotten in our community.
Families Moving Forward
Families Moving Forward is a community-based organization that helps families with children find a stable, safe, and loving environment while they are in a temporary crisis of homelessness.
Githens Middle School
Githens Middle School is located diagonally across the street from New Creation UMC. The church assists the school by praying for the school, providing school supplies, proctoring tests, helping teachers set up classrooms at the beginning of the school year, teacher appreciation events, serving breakfast or lunch at the start of school, and greeting students on their first day of school in the Fall.
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope. It works in partnership with individuals and families who need a decent, affordable place to live.
Hispanic Ministry
Hispanic Ministry reaches out to and supports Hispanic families in the church and community with efforts to understand their culture, concerns, and needs in a Christian context.
Interdenominational Ministerial Allowance (IMA)
IMA unites clergy from various Christian denominations, dedicated to serving God and uplifting the local community through collaborative efforts and shared faith.
Prison Ministry
Prison Ministry includes Kairos, a mission to develop a Christian community on the inside of a prison, which begins with a 3½-day weekend. MATCH, Mothers and Their Children, a non-profit created to address the needs of children of incarcerated mothers. This Is Our House, which provides housing for women released from prison. Women’s Prison, where faith communities provide services to assist with rehabilitation.
Mature Years
Mature Years is an organization of seniors that seeks to address the physical, spiritual, and social concerns and needs of seniors.
Membership Care and Nurture Ministry
Membership Care and Nurture Ministry reaches out to congregation members and their families to support and care for them in times of need. Eleven team leaders contact 8 to 20 members each to discuss their concerns, joys, and prayer requests, and reach out to members who have been absent from worship services and other church activities for a while. Team leaders send cards for birthdays, anniversaries, losses, special celebrations, and thinking of you cards. They may visit members and, on occasion, bring food to sick and homebound members. This ministry also maintains accurate records of church membership.
Music Ministry
The music ministry consists of all the church choirs, a part-time director, and a part-time drummer. This ministry is a critical and integral part of the church’s worship and other services. It utilizes a variety of musical traditions, styles, and genres in services to address the needs of the multicultural congregation.
Preaching
Preaching spreads and interprets the word of Christ to members and friends of the church through in-person and virtual worship services.
Safe Sanctuary
Safe Sanctuary Ministry’s mission is to create and maintain a safe space for all in the church. It specifically teaches how to prevent abuse and neglect of vulnerable groups within the church.
Spiritual Formation
Spiritual Formation is growing and remaining grounded in God’s words and plans for individuals and the church through personal and communal practices of prayer, devotion, studying scripture, special studies, small groups, and active participation in worship and other ministries of the church and community.
Teaching
Instructing, facilitating, leading, reading, evaluating, interpreting scripture, addressing issues, discussing specific topics in a participatory manner through Sunday School, Bible Study, Advent Studies, Stewardship Studies, Lenten Studies, and other studies led by the pastor and lay people.
Weekly Newsletter and Worship Bulletin
The Weekly Newsletter and worship bulletin are sent to members and friends of New Creation UMC each week to inform and alert them to announcements, special celebrations, recognitions, prayer requests, and descriptions of upcoming events and services.
Our Formation and Groups
At New Creation, we understand the power and potential of being connected to one another through small groups. That’s why we encourage all of our members to join at least one group to study the Bible together and discuss how His word impact our lives. Our small group opportunities include:
Adult Bible Study
Adult Bible study involves group study of biblical passages through methods like verse-by-verse analysis, guided discussions, and prayerful reflection. These studies are designed to deepen spiritual knowledge and maturity, often focusing on specific books of the Bible or thematic topics. It also incorporates, Advent, Lent and Stewardship Studies. Adult Bible Study meets regularly on Wednesday at noon and Tuesday evenings at 6:30pm.
Adult Sunday School
Adult Sunday school is held on Sunday afternoon, at 2pm, via zoom. It is a bible-based class for adults that focuses on studying scripture, Christian theology, and fellowship. These classes offer an opportunity to deepen one’s relationship with God and the community of believers through discussion and study.
United Women in Faith
The mission of United Women in Faith is to connect and nurture women through spiritual formation, leadership development, and creative fellowship, inspiring them to impact local and global communities. The organization focuses on turning faith into action by advocating for justice, expanding mission concepts, and supporting ministries that help women, children, and youth. The local unit of United Women In Faith meets after church on the 3rd Sunday of each month.
United Methodist Men
The purpose of United Methodist Men (UMM) is to help men grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ so others may know Christ, which is achieved through spiritual formation, discipleship, and service. The group serves the church in various capacities from assisting homebound members to providing resources, service and participation in church ministries. The men’s group meets after church on the 4th Sunday of each month.
Young Adult Ministry
This ministry provides spiritual guidance, community, fellowship and discipleship for young adult members addressing the unique challenges of this stage of life. It includes a variety of activities such as Bible studies, prayer, social events, and opportunities for service, aiming to foster spiritual growth, and a connection to their faith community by creating a supportive, engaging environment. The young adults meet at 5:00 pm, on the second Sunday of each month.
Children’s Church
Children’s church is a separate worship service for elementary school aged children that takes place during the main adult service. It involves teaching, Bible lessons, worship songs, and other activities tailored to a child’s understanding.
Youth Ministry
Youth ministry is religious programming for middle and high schoolers, that aims to foster their spiritual development, encourage a relationship with God, engage in community and prepare for leadership in the church.. It involves activities like worship, Bible studies,, outreach, and community service as well fellowship and fun together. The youth ministry meets on various Sundays immediately after church.
